-Completion of the application process

-Review all information related to the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department Fire Fighter position, including minimum requirements, salary and benefits.

-Detailed information about the testing process for both the entry level test and the Firefighter Mile (FFM)*.

-Opportunity to take online practice tests at www.fireteamtest.com.

-Schedule your own convenient test time. Tests are offered multiple times a week, including Saturdays.

-Take high quality job simulation tests in a standardized, fair testing environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Age: Applicant must be at least 18 years of age upon appointment

Maximum Age: Applicant cannot be 40 years of age or older at the final closing date of the testing period.

School: Must possess a valid driver’s license and high school diploma (or GED tests equivalency) at the time of appointment.

Paramedic Training: "As long as there are two hundred fifty (250) certified Local 92 paramedics, becoming a paramedic shall be voluntary. If the total number of Local 92 paramedics falls below two hundred fifty (250), existing Local 92 members first shall have the option of volunteering to become certified; if there is an insufficient number of volunteers then the department shall have the authority to mandate paramedic certification via reverse seniority” CBA 2018-2020 Section 2125.96

Entrance Examination:Upon completion of the Fire TEAM written test and the Fire Fighter Mile* (FFM) physical test, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the City of Toledo.  Candidates who attain a passing score on the Fire TEAM written test will be placed on the department’s eligibility list.  All scores must be requested from the City of Toledo via kelly.murphy@toledo.oh.gov . In addition, you may transfer any valid (Less than one year old) test from National Testing Network to the City of Toledo through their website.

National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct entry level testing and FFM testing in a standardized, professional environment. National Testing Network does not replace the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department’s responsibility and decision making in the testing process.  All candidate results are provided to the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department where the final decisions are made.

*The Firefighter Mile (FFM) is a physical ability test for firefighters. It is designed to evaluate entry level firefighter candidates on the essential physical capabilities required to satisfactorily perform their job duties. The FFM consists of 10 events designed to simulate critical, physically demanding tasks faced by firefighters during an emergency.

National Testing Network is no longer providing test scores to applicants.  The City of Toledo Human Resources department can provide submitted valid test scores upon request.  Email your request to kelly.murphy@toledo.oh.gov

1. Starting August 22, 2024 there are a limited number of vouchers given by the City of Toledo, on a first come first serve basis.  ANYONE in Ohio, and these Michigan counties: Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Monroe, Washaenaw, and Wayne are included. 2. When providing proof of Residency Please use only a VALID drivers license or photo ID, voter registration card, current UT student ID.  Any bank statements, utility bills or mail addressed to your current residency needs to be with in the past month.
3. When requesting a voucher from Kelly.Murphy@toledo.oh.gov be sure to let her know your requesting a voucher for the FireTeam test or the FireFighter Mile as she handles HR for the entire City of Toledo.
4. Voucher’s for the Fire Fighter Mile will only be issued after passing the FireTeam test.

NTN will automatically forward your scores to Kelly Murphy. If you would like to know your score, reach out to Kelly Murphy 48 hrs after you completed the test and clearly request exactly what score you require.

If you have a valid DD-214 or EMT certificates, these need to be attached to your application on governmentjobs.com.  Do not email these to Kelly Murphy.  If you have already applied and are unable to attach them to your application then you can email them to Kelly Murphy to assist you in the process.
